The type of training that you may wish to undertake will largely depend on where you see yourself working i.e. in a nursery or an after school club as well as your job role and experience.

 Please see below for a list of possible job roles relating to the level of qualification held.

 

Level 1

Aimed for those new to working with children.

Volunteer or inexperienced worker in any setting or for anyone considering a particular career.

Level 2

Qualified but works under supervision.

Childcare/Play Sectors - Playworker, Pre-school Assistant, Creche Assistant, Nursery Nurse Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Meal Time Assistant.

Other sectors - anyone who provides a support role and works with supervision, although this may not be constant direct supervision. It would not be expected for the candidate to have very many decision making responsibilities.

Level 3

Qualified to a supervisory level. You may work alone and/ or have responsibility for other staff.

Childcare/Play Sectors - Playworker, Playranger. Afterschool/Breakfast Club Supervisor, Pre-School Supervisor, Creche Supervisor, Day Nursery Supervisor, Childminder, Special Needs Support Worker, Early Years Support Worker, Nanny, Special Needs (SENCO).

Other sectors - Team Leaders, Supervisors and anyone who ensures policies and procedures are adhered to.

Level 4

Qualifications for managers or advisors – you should be supporting others who are working at level 3

Childcare/Play Sectors - Managers of a team of playworkers, Nursery Manager. Preschool/Childminder Development Workers. Senior Early Years Workers.

Other sectors - Managers, Advisors, Team Leaders or those with managerial responsibilities.
